Monthly Forecast - January 2003
The year 2003 starts off with a Mercury retrograde cycle on January 2 at 28/29 degrees Capricorn. Who is in charge of our world and who is responsible
for our life? Any answer other than yourself gives your power away. It also means accepting complete responsibility for your self and your life, and your
contribution to the world. This Mercury retro gives us the opportunity to understand our role on the planet, and to take charge of our lives.
Capricorn solar energy always initiates the New Year. The Evolutionary Astrology mantra for Sun in Capricorn is: I achieve my goals with emotional
self-reliance. In patriarchal terms this means controlling the outside at the denial of our emotional well being. In aligning with natural laws, our outer
world is only a reflection of our inner world.
True, long-term success in our work is based upon understanding and evolving our emotions. Emotionally healthy people create emotionally healthy
worlds. Our current world state-of-affairs is only a reflection of the emotional woundedness on the planet.
2003 is a 5-year in the 9-year cycle of numerology. We are at the apex, or full moon phase, of a 9-year cycle. It is a time for creativity, expansion and
answers. The work of last year is now ready to blossom. In the U.S. we have been creating war. What reflections can you make back to 1999, the
1-year start of this 9-year cycle? What do you choose to create this year?
Capricorn energy teaches us to socially mature and learn how to function in our community. Today is this achieved through work and a career, and
money. Capricorn, and its ruler Saturn, help us build our social laws, customs and taboos. Here we create the boundaries of what we know
(consciousness) from what we do not know (unconsciousness).
We create our world and how we function in it as a means to be secure and feel safe. This Mercury retrograde cycle throws everything up in the air.
We want to cling to the past and what we know (security). Mercury retro in Capricorn now asks us to let go of the past in order to grow.
It also allows us to let go of the fluff of the last few months. We have had lots of ideas coming through lately, which ones are based upon reality?
What is the next step in your role on the planet and in your community?
The Mercury retro cycles are now moving into earth signs, and the opposite of earth signs are the water signs: emotions. Again, astrology works via
polarity. Your outer world is based upon your emotions, so do your emotional work. How do you need to be responsible for your emotional health?
This will get you much further than wanting to blame a co-worker, or the economy, or your partner.
We have a tendency with Mercury retro in Capricorn to hold it in, and play the “tough guy” role. Talk it out during this retro cycle. Make that effort to
communicate and find out how someone else looks at your situation. Open up and let others in to help.
The New Moon in Capricorn is also January 2 at 12/13 degrees. An annual time to initiate new realities. A natural time to choose new goals and
resolutions. This is who I am and who I am not. This is what I can do and what is not possible, yet. This is my next step. How can I let go of the past
in order to grow?
Venus makes a waning square to Uranus on January 3 at 26/27 degrees Scorpio-Aquarius. A few shocks can happen here to the degree that we have
been co-dependent on others. This is a time to let go of old love patterning. We can also have more resolution to the Venus retro cycle last fall.
Venus makes an aspect to all five outer planets this month. And Mars does the same over the next two months. We are continually evolving our
relationships with others. The aspects with the outer planets may trigger major ah ha’s, and bring about karmic situations. Always ask for the best way
to love your self and be responsible for yourself. Then the karmic carryover will be as little as possible.
Mercury retro makes a waxing sextile to Venus on January 5 at 27/28 degrees Capricorn-Scorpio, a repeat of the December 15 aspect. Now we are
mentally reviewing how to be responsible for our own needs. Conversations can either be about blame or support. Where are you? Is there a limitation
right now? Only you can change it.
Venus goes into Sagittarius on January 7 for a four-week passage. Whew! After four months in Scorpio Venus finally feels free! Yippee! Venus in
Sag brings a search for truth, which means lessons in facing our lies, within and without. It is time to bring absolute honesty to the table.
We had several months for Venus to make us aware of any co-dependencies. If you have faced your next step in self-reliance then Venus in Sag can
open up lots of possibilities, fun and adventure. It is a time where personal love and philosophical love learn to merge. Do your ideals match your
reality? If not, what needs to change?
Mercury retro makes the second waxing sextile to Mars on January 8 at 24/25 degrees Capricorn-Scorpio, repeating the December 13 aspect. Here
we can review our actions in moving forward. Mars likes the power of Scorpio and with Mercury in Cap there is a lot of mental work on how to be in
control. Where are you at, outer or inner power?
Let us visualize countries learning how to negotiate with each other during the Mercury retrograde cycle, and to be honest with each other. Tempers
could quickly flare and events explode even with this seemingly minor aspect.
Mercury makes its inferior conjunction to the Sun on January 11 at 21/22 degrees Capricorn. This is the time for answers to this Mercury retro cycle.
Pay attention to the mental images and conversations that come to you at this time. You can realize a deeper reality for yourself, and a better role to
play in your world. Take responsibility for your self in every way.
How are your values about money changing?
Find the courage to have those conversations out loud, not just in your head. Many times it helps to just have basic human contact when planets are in
Capricorn and Cancer. Can you find a way to just hold hands with whomever you need to make breakthroughs with? Can you initiate the healing hug?
Mars makes its waning square to Uranus on January 11 as well at 26/27 degrees Scorpio-Aquarius. This is a tense aspect for intense planets in
bull-headed signs. A crisis in beliefs. Who is right and who is wrong. Pray peace. See peace.
The message is to let go of control (Mars in Scorpio) and open up to a larger picture of things (Uranus in Aquarius). The old ways of doing things “just
don’t” get us anywhere anymore. War hasn’t created peace in the last 7-8,000 years. Visualize peace. Choose another course of action in your life,
and be the example.
Hold the energy this weekend for peace on the planet everywhere.
Mars then follows Venus into Sagittarius on January 16 for a 7-week journey. There is opportunity to deepen our understanding of life and what the U.S.
is contemplating with other countries. Mars in both Scorpio and Sag have asked us to look deeper and take others into consideration before we act.
Mars likes the fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sag) and there is tendency to act first, contemplate later. So, how can you look at the larger picture of what is
happening in your life? At the end of Sun in Capricorn can you understand what is next for your career? Can you operate in truth? Where are you
trying to convince another you are right and they are wrong? Can you listen to their understanding of things?
Mars in Sag can bring us leaders on every level, from the fundamentalists to the truly inspired global leaders. Work to create a circle that can hold
everyone.
Venus makes a waning sextile to Neptune on January 17 at 10/11 degrees Sag-Aquarius. A time for reflection and understanding our relationship to
everything. Quest for truth in your conversations with others. We can each look at a picture and see entirely different things. Make sure you are
speaking the same language.
The Full Moon of Cancer follows on January 18 at 27/28 degrees Capricorn-Cancer. An annual time to balance our home and career, inner world and
outer world. Watch for emotional fallout here if you have been too invested in work.
Pay attention to your emotions on the Full Moons. We are continually evolving our self-image, and Full Moons help bring those emotions to the surface
to help us understand them and how we perceive ourselves.
The Sun enters Aquarius on January 20 and the Evolutionary Astrology mantra is: I break free with new creativity in myself. Each zodiacal sign evolves
the one before it. Aquarius takes whatever Capricorn crystallizes and sets it free. This is the solar month to let go of whatever is not truly us.
Aquarius is about de-conditioning: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. There is always another step on the evolutionary ladder. Where are
you needing to break free?
Venus makes a waxing trine to Jupiter retro at 14/15 degrees Sagittarius-Leo on January 21. Are you in love with life? If not, ask why during this time.
Things can easily flow into place here. A beautiful opportunity to blossom and grow, and discover truths about our selves and others.
Watch for any subtle uneasiness here. It may show where you do not want to face your truths.
Mercury goes stationary direct on January 22 at 12/13 degrees Capricorn. More mental answers. Pieces of the puzzle can fall together now. Our
securities may have been thrown into chaos at the beginning of this month, and now we can understand deeper levels of inner security.
Again, take time for conversations that seem necessary here. Everyone can have a better understanding of how to function in their lives, and where they
each stand in their personal situations. Your financial situations are resolving themselves now.
Venus makes an annual conjunction to Pluto on January 25 at 19/20 degrees Sagittarius. It is a time to quest for what our essential needs are. Again,
there may be resolutions to the Venus retro cycle here.
Venus and Pluto can show us the ultimate in co-dependency, and self-reliance. Where is your next step in meeting your own needs? What deeper
understandings about yourself can you make? What desires are surfacing here for you? Do they help you find your way Home? Love yourself as
deeply as you can. Initiate new love desires and patterns.
Sun makes a waxing sextile to Mars on January 25/26 at 5/6 degrees Aquarius-Sag. We can move forward in our search for truth, or we can proclaim
to have the truth, just follow us. Sun and Mars can be inspirational together. They can also be quite forceful to get their own way. The choice is yours.
The inner planets are moving along through the second half of the zodiac, taking us more and more into the collective. Together Sun in Aquarius and
Mars in Sag bring energy to stand for our cause, what we believe is right. How is your personal world? Do you fight to get what you want, or do you
strive to negotiate and compromise?
Venus opposes Saturn retro on January 28 at 22/23 degrees Sagittarius-Gemini. Facing reality in our lives. Here we can understand more of what we
really need, and what can be released as excess. Taking care of ourselves.
Venus gets a bad rap when it runs into Saturn. Do you want the fantasy of love or the reality of love? Venus and Saturn teach us how to be real in love.
Whatever collapses here is either not real or highest and best for us. When we base our giving and receiving love on Venus with Saturn we can create
deep, lasting foundations. Venus and Saturn can create lasting friendships.
The Sun makes its annual conjunction to Neptune on January 30 at 10/11 degrees Aquarius. Can enough of us realize spiritual truth yet to create peace
on the planet? Can we create unity in diversity?
When the Sun merges with Neptune they want to dissolve any boundaries. Ultimate Light wants to shine through. In Aquarius the message is to
dissolve any limitations, to let go of the past. What new spiritual truths are you realizing for yourself that ask you to let go?
To let go of boundaries is too much for most souls. We take Neptune in Aquarius and try to recreate the past. We try to convince others that our truth
is the only truth. It can work for awhile; however, sooner or later ultimate truth will be revealed.
January has been a lighter month for planetary aspects, yet we must not sell anything short. Energy continues to build with lessor-evolved souls that
war is the answer. Mercury retrograde in Capricorn may just build a war, or multiple wars. Pray peace, be peace. May your world blossom in 2003 in
the creativity of peace and love.
May God/Goddess bless you in January!
