When the archetype of Scorpio finds any type of emotional security it can become the barnacle, holding on and refusing to change until a cataclysm erupts, completely changing the landscape. With regard to emotions and relationships, these eruptions can find Scorpio facing itself alone again, reaching for the next level of self-reliance via its polarity Taurus. The Evolutionary Astrology mantra for Scorpio is: I metamorphose myself with evolving self-reliance.

Scorpio is where we learn the archetype of power and powerlessness. We notice this through forces of power (people, political groups, bodies of knowledge, etc.), which we perceive to be greater than ourselves, or having something we lack within ourselves. The relationship example is attraction to someone who has qualities or possessions we do not. Through these hypnotic attractions we connect and osmosis that which we are attracted to within ourselves, becoming more than what we were before. We evolve, and reach a greater state of self-empowerment.

However, when self-reliance is actually lacking on some level then we connect and become co-dependent upon that which we perceive to lacking within us. In relationships, this is giving our power away to another in order to have whatever we perceive they give us – love from outside ourselves is the most common example, with resources closely following. Those souls attempting to have all the control and manipulations in a relationship are also lacking in self-reliance. It just exists on a more subtle level covered by appearing to be in charge.

Both sides of an un-equal relationship (lovers, friends, teacher-student, counselor-counselee, sadomasochistic, etc.) have lessons in self-reliance. While both sides have different reasons for maintaining security in their relationship dysfunctions, evolutionary resistance to taking care of one’s own needs just creates larger degrees of upsets in order to hopefully create greater self-reliance.

Evolving self-reliance creates the ability to end as well as begin any relationship, however it is necessary. Our ability to say no to unhealthy relating opens up the space to say yes to healthier relating. When one door closes, another one opens somewhere else. This or something better needs to be the message. Scorpio forgets this awareness when the sky is falling and their security has been rocked.

Scorpio also teaches us about the forces of power Evolutionary Astrology describes as separating forces and returning forces. Religions use the words evil and good, or satan and god. This is the natural law of polarity that came into manifestation when the Un-manifest projected itself into physical creation in order to evolve and perfect Itself. These dueling forces exist everywhere, in everyone and everything.

Human consciousness naturally knows this as the separating desires and returning desires within one’s own soul. It is the voice of conscience within our own head. Scorpio is the archetype where the separating and returning desires “battle” it out. The attraction to greater forces of power can be of a separating or returning nature. For Evolutionary Astrology, evolution is the exhaustion of any and all separating desires (forces), and it tends to take more than one lifetime!!

Just as the seasons cycle, human consciousness cycles back again and again into physical form, exhausting any and all separating desires, evolving and perfecting itself along the way as we expand in consciousness. As we exhaust these separating desires, the desire to know and return to That from which we came becomes more and more conscious. We become an avatar when it is the only desire left.

The essence to understand with these dueling forces of power within us is that we get as many chances as it takes to exhaust these separating desires. We even have the free choice to be lazy, up to a point. Just know that this laziness, or resistance, creates larger cataclysms when it is time to evolve. Scorpio lessons of evolving self-empowerment start with whispers. By the time the voice in your head is getting your attention, you better be taking action no matter how many times you must attempt something in order to reach the next plateau of evolution. The real force of power is in the effort, whether you take baby steps or leaps of growth.

This solar month brings several planetary changes of direction: Neptune and Mercury turn direct a day apart, Mars starts its retrograde cycle and Uranus turns direct right after the Sun enters Sagittarius. Planetary changes of direction bring the same opportunities for us. The current path needs adjusting. Planetary retrogrades create natural times for evolution due to the review of a planet over certain degrees of the zodiac three times. Multiple chances to evolve are everywhere we look in the universe – it is all we came here to do.

There is also one Jupiter waning sextile to Neptune retrograde aspect this month. It is a subtle, yet powerful, opportunity to enhance the returning desires and forces in our lives. October 23 - Mercury retrograde conjuncts the Sun on October 23 at 0/1 degree Scorpio. This is the highlight of the Mercury retro cycle that runs from October 11/12 to November 1 at 9 degrees Scorpio to 23/24 degrees Libra. Just as the Sun enters Scorpio Mercury is leaving, so the messages could be quite intense and strong as they cross paths. Breathe and listen. Maybe several deep breaths and a long walk are necessary. Then make an effort with communications. It is time to process through the emotions bubbling up to the surface.

This Mercury retro in Scorpio-Libra revolves around those security issues in relationships and resources. Feelings of insecurity are powerful opportunities to get in touch with our next step of growth, especially on mental levels with Mercury. What is your self-talk? How can you change it regardless of your circumstances?

This isn’t limited to sexual relationships; it is with anyone you know beyond a casual, acquaintance level. Pay attention to the relationships most visible and pressing right now. How can you take things to the next level? Where does the give and take need to happen?

It may be a boss who doesn’t listen, how do you get their attention? It may be a child clinging to old fears; whisper healing, self-empowering mantras into their right ear (to receive) when asleep. Whatever next steps are necessary for evolving intimate, sexual relationships will be made known in early solar Scorpio. This Venus-Uranus opposition brings things to a head – the famous eruptions. Know that any attractions outside a primary relationship symbolize what is missing in the primary relationship.

When outside attractions happen, the least karmic action is bringing this attracting quality back into the primary relationship and addressing it there first. Then, if it doesn’t work out or the partner is unwilling, you are karmically free to move on toward the outside attraction. With Venus-Uranus we may think we made the wrong relationship choice when that is not the case. October 25/26 - The Full Moon of Taurus is October 25/26 at 2/3 degrees Scorpio-Taurus. This is the annual Full Moon to test our degree of self-reliance. Scorpio energy is intense due to this emotional ability to intuit the bottom line of power in any situation - who has it and who doesn’t. It can make others feel insecure when Scorpio energy strips away the social surface niceties.

Be Ok with the Full Moon emotional excesses in early solar Scorpio. It allows you to realize what lessons you need to work on this month. When we merge with another and osmosis to new levels of power the complete lesson is to then step back into the next level of self-empowerment. This is the greatest gift Scorpio can offer through understanding its polar opposite, Taurus. This is actually how all twelve signs operate – in harmony with their polar opposite sign. October 26 - Mercury retro makes the second of three waning sextiles to Pluto on October 26 at 27 degrees Libra-Sagittarius. The first one was September 24 and the last waning sextile is November 8, both in Libra-Sag. This aspect will bring repeated messages of speaking the truth in all our relationships.

Pluto is direct and in the final degrees of Sagittarius. Lies are coming out all over the place, the question is - are we listening? Libra is the psychology of listening, while Mercury is the anatomy of listening. Together, Mercury in Libra is learning how to really listen to what another is actually stating. Pluto has some powerful messages so make every effort you can to listen to the many voices coming through.

Trust your intuition as the most powerful voice may be just a whisper. Universal truths are timeless, and bring a sense of relief even if we still feel some insecurity with Sun in Scorpio. As new information settles in, the relief and sense of “rightness” comes through stronger and stronger.

October 29 - Venus makes a waning square to Jupiter on October 29 at 19/20 degrees Virgo-Sagittarius. This aspect can be another message about getting to the truth of the matter, especially with regard to our essential needs in life. After a summer Venus retro cycle, we have reached new depth in understanding what those needs really are. It may be necessary to let go of old beliefs in order to achieve those needs.

Venus in Virgo can range from the extremes of self-deprecation to criticizing everyone and everything. Inner self-love is a solution, and so is understanding that perfection is a process. Somehow these themes are coming to a crisis that asks us to shed old, old beliefs about our selves. With Sun in Scorpio, we may feel everyone else has whatever we lack. The grass always looks greener on the other side until we actually step in it.

There will always be souls with more and less than wherever you find yourself. You can choose to re-imprint victimization and repeat the old cycle, or, find appreciation for the things you desire. October 29 - The Sun makes a waxing sextile to Saturn on October 29 at 6/7 degrees Scorpio-Virgo. These two planets help us manifest things in life, to set goals and creatively actualize our soul’s purpose. As the Sun spends the next two-plus years relating to Saturn in Virgo, self-improvement, especially with our health, becomes a major theme.

A waxing sextile aspect is opportunity, and growth can easily be taken forward or resisted at this point. Make an effort, for a waxing sextile aspect can set the stage for the rest of the cycle. Take time to ponder what would really improve your world and then utilize the power of Scorpio to do something about it. A new exercise program? A new nutritional lifestyle? New self-love mantras? New relating patterns? The choices are yours.

Put some Scorpio emotional energy to the effort as well. The emotional body is always the bridge between the metaphysical and the physical. From the spiritual and mental, the emotional body then energizes the manifestations into the physical, both illness and healing. October 29/30 - Jupiter makes only one waning sextile to Neptune retrograde on October 29/30 at 19/20 degrees Sagittarius-Aquarius. Just as the waxing sextile aspect sets the stage for creating, the waning sextile aspect brings the same energy to understanding and completion. We can make major ah ha’s with waning sextiles, if, we make the effort.

We can sometimes look at Jupiter as our personal beliefs while Neptune represents broader, universal beliefs. Neptune is a bigger ripple in the pond than Jupiter, and it turns stationary direct in another day. The end of October builds to a crescendo of deeper understandings and outcomes to manifestations previously set into motion. The momentum has been building up over time so while we may not be able to stop the events/manifestations, how we choose to look at the lessons is entirely within our realm of power.

This is where Jupiter-Neptune can help us step back and understand the deepest levels possible. Their last conjunction, or initiation of belief systems, was January 9, 1997 at 27/28 degrees Capricorn. Beliefs are intangible, yet they create all the manifestations in the world. Consciousness creates matter. There seems to be an expanding consciousness in humanity to realizing a mind-emotion-body connection to the physical world. Energize fear and you get more of it. Energize gloom and doom to create more. Energize hope and peace to bring it on.

The separating forces in the universe are intent on keeping us in the dark and the fears, always trying to expand an inch into a mile. The returning forces are always there as well, patiently waiting for us to exhaust the fears and see the larger connections. Evolutionary Astrology makes the observation that the returning forces have a slight edge on the separating forces, otherwise we would not be hear to tell the story.

So as we realize more and more that what we energize we create, we can lesson the fears of the upsets. It is less whether or not things happen to upset us, and more how we respond. There is purpose in disappointment and disillusionment – drawing us inward to change something in our lives. As we look at souls evolving through lifetimes of exhausting separating desires, we can build up some interesting and painful delusions, misunderstandings and conditionings. Sometimes the upsets come along to break us free of the separating beliefs and conditionings. It is called evolutionary necessity.

These are big themes and take detached, broader, questioning viewpoints to understand. It is less the event and more the process, the evolution and growth. When you do not understand something, just ask for the broadest levels of universal truths to be revealed. Keep asking until you do understand any subject a little better. Beliefs are always evolving just like everything else in life, and they tend to be conditioned thought patterns.

Religions like to dogmatize beliefs to keep souls conditioned and separated from one another, and detachment is very necessary to recognize this. Jupiter, in its own sign Sag, waning sextile to Neptune in Aquarius bring opportunities to reconnect with Universal Source. Another example in today’s world is nature and the consequences of humanity’s blind materialism over the last 100 years. Where did we ever get the idea we could ignore nature and our connection to it?

Jupiter waning sextile Neptune can easily be cherished beliefs dissolving or a major lie exposed. With Sagittarius and Aquarius, we can experience shocking events or information, with the intent to wake us up. The big question again – will we? Or do we go for escapism? This aspect is for discovering your deepest truths and then making the effort to live them.

October 31 - Neptune turns stationary direct on October 31 at 19/20 degrees Aquarius. This finishes the Neptune retrograde cycle that began May 24 at 22 degrees Aquarius. The outer planets – Uranus, Neptune and Pluto – operate unconsciously in most souls. It is when they change directions, retrograde and direct, from our geocentric viewpoints that their deep archetypes are made conscious. The quest is to remain conscious of whatever lessons they bring to the surface. The planetary stationary directs represent movement forward again, incorporating the expanded consciousness to new levels with each planetary archetype.

This Halloween may reveal deep truths, or we may go for more illusions if truth brings up too much insecurity. Our ancestors always celebrated the natural cycles of the solar system, or the observation and correlation of the planetary cycles to events on planet Earth. As above, so below. As within, so without. While we know the solstices and equinoxes today, the cross-quarter points or half-way points between them were also honored in times past. While our ancestors were more fatalistic about the natural cycles, today we know we have more free choice.

All Hallows Eve is the half-way point between the Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice. It comes around mid-Scorpio (Sun) and was known to be a time when the veil between the physical and metaphysical was the thinnest – the underworld of Scorpio. We could commune with our collective ancestors and the spirits/souls outside of physical bodies. Life and death were understood to be just two sides of the same spectrum within the soul.

Neptune turning direct at this time brings a little more intensity to everything. During its long passage through Aquarius (1998 – 2011) we are requested to become more and more detached from our cherished beliefs. This allows us to see any human-made conditionings for what they are – conditioning in order to feel secure. Scorpio and Aquarius are naturally square to each other on the zodiacal wheel. While both are fixed signs, all fixed signs (add on Taurus and Leo, their polar opposites) want the upper hand to be in charge of everything in order to feel secure.

Well, good ole Neptune will come along and dissolve whatever needs to be uprooted. In this case, conditioned beliefs that make us feel secure. How many souls can look beyond the times and customs, conditionings, they have been raised in and understand a larger picture? Neptune in Aquarius keeps insisting on it and stationary direct emphasizes the point.

Evolutionary Astrology likes to point out the last Aquarian Age (approximately 26,000 years ago) when attempting to look forward, an Aquarian archetype in itself. During the last Aquarian Age the goddess movement was coming into its own power. Not as we know it today, which we must watch out for being a re-hash of male/patriarchal archetypes as in anthropomorphic projections of Universal Source in our own, human image. Tens of thousands of years ago souls observed all of nature to be interconnected, Source energy was in everything and all of life. That natural law never changed, only our perception of it – separating human consciousness from other forms as though we are better than animal consciousness. Now, we have an opportunity to return to more natural awareness with Neptune in Aquarius and with the coming Aquarian Age.

The themes are obvious – global village, global warming, etc. we are all connected. The big question Neptune asks us: Which is stronger in each of us individually and collectively – the separating desires or the returning desires? Will we make war or make peace? Our ancestors kept the peace through making love. Human-made religions, through garden-of-eden myths tried to separate spirit and flesh, and it has grossly distorted sexuality.

Stay tuned, the choice to return to more natural spiritual laws and principles really is ours. If we do fail here on planet Earth, we will just cycle back around to try yet again on another planet in some other galaxy far, far away. The knowledge doesn’t give us an excuse not to care, although we are free to make that choice. Rather, it is a message of maturing, and continuing to ask for purpose in life.

As Neptune in Aquarius turns stationary direct, it is time to keep asking for universal, timeless truths to be revealed to you. Then make your best efforts to walk your talk. Treat the planet as sacred and find new ways to honor all its beings. Create small circles of community that expand to larger and larger circles. Neptune in Aquarius brings opportunity to actualize unity in diversity.

November 1 - Mercury turns stationary direct on November 1 at 23/24 degrees Libra, as it finishes up the retrograde cycle it started on October 11/12 at 9 degrees Scorpio. All kinds of mental breakthroughs happen here. Whatever we have been trying to figure out in our relationships now reaches new levels of comprehension.

Life seems to go forward again, a little easier. There can still be a lot of activities as Mercury changes directions, especially social functions. We can more clearly see where we fit in with our circles of friendships, responding yes or no as necessary.

We definitely have opportunity to now achieve new levels of equality in intimate relationships. Libra is like the dating game, and through all the contrasts we discern what we like and dislike. Mercury spent a bit of time in Scorpio before going back to Libra, so the emotional equations also entered the picture. As we put it all together, we have a much better idea of what we are looking for in partnerships. There are new patterns to create which bring more satisfaction.

All this takes place through communications – speaking and listening, back and forth. Remember, you will be heard as much as you are willing to listen. Then if another is not willing to reciprocate you have solid reasons for holding healthy boundaries. No is as necessary as yes for Libran energy. Take your relationships, and your communication abilities, to new levels of giving and receiving.

November 4 - The Sun makes a waxing trine to Mars on November 4 at 11/12 degrees Scorpio-Cancer. Mars is slowing down, getting ready for its retrograde cycle starting November 15. Over the next few months the inner planets will move through Scorpio, bringing a grand trine (triangle formation) to Mars in Scorpio and Uranus in Pisces. The water signs – Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces – emphasize emotional energy.

Sun in Scorpio always looks for the bottom line essence of anything. It is our annual relationship time of the year. What is working? What is not working? Mars in Cancer will emphasize inner security and familial patterns. How many times have we noticed that our intimate relationships follow the patterns in our families of origin? What would you like to change? Trines make it easy to evolve or resist, the choice is yours. This waxing trine is about manifesting new growth.

This aspect can bring ease in working through our emotional patterns, or avoiding them. The coming Mars in Cancer/Gemini retrograde cycle (November 15 – January 30, 2008) will just repeat the themes until we do address things. November 5/6 - Venus makes a waning square to Pluto on November 5/6 at 27/28 degrees Virgo-Sagittarius. Venus is finishing up a long cycle through Virgo that started last July 14. Self-love lessons have been the theme this summer. When the outer Leonean attempts did not work, we were faced with looking inward. Now, Venus faces the test of letting go of any old beliefs that no longer serve us.

Example? Can you look in the mirror at your body and state “I love you” with all the positive emotional energy you can muster? Can you see the soul inside the temple, and, love the form it expresses itself through? Good Venus in Virgo test.

Pluto in Sag now gives Venus in Virgo the energy to release old doubts and judgments, especially from any beliefs based upon perfectionist standards. This aspect asks for unconditional love towards self, and to recognize what really matters to us in life. How well can you do this? Do you desire love from another yet seem unable to give it to your self?

It is from the acceptance of our selves that we can then evolve and grow however we desire this lifetime. And, release the need to manipulate another in order to get the love that we are actually looking for within our selves! Ah, Sun in Scorpio, give us the power to recognize this and create all the self-love we desire.

November 7 - The Sun makes a waning trine to Uranus retrograde on November 7 at 14/15 degrees Scorpio-Pisces. Here is the other side of the grand trine between Sun-Mars-Uranus. Our emotions can run deep this solar month. Uranus in Pisces creates a tendency to check out when our emotional body threatens to overtake us. Can you become still, take some deep breaths and observe the particular emotions coming up?

Uranus in Pisces can also reveal any victimization patterns, and the insights for changing things. Together Sun-Uranus can really help us become conscious of deep emotional wounds. Do you want to cling to your victim story? Or, are you ready to make a shift? Make your choices carefully, and as consciously as possible.

Deep love could be a theme and so could intense betrayals. The details will be unique to each of us and point out the love patterns we have been energizing. Scorpio betrayals of trust are opportunities to love our selves better, and to trust our own intuition more instead of ignoring the subtle messages popping up. Insecurity causes us to suppress the intuitive hits that reveal those very same insecurities. Pay attention and remain conscious. Become the Scorpio detective and address the issues.

Self-reliance on the other hand leads to the deep exchanges of unconditional love. Then Sun-Uranus can become best friends as well as lovers, giving and exchanging energy without games and manipulations. Getting hurt can still happen, however, the motivation is on self-growth more than setting up someone else to be responsible for our own needs. Any pain just makes us better and better at meeting our own needs.

November 8 - Venus enters Libra on November 8 for the next month, until December 5. Yippee! Finally, Venus feels a big sign of relief moving into one of its own signs of rulership. It was a long four months in Leo-Virgo through its summer retrograde cycle. Mercury has been direct for a week now in Libra and relationship issues are resolving themselves. Let’s party!

Venus’ rulership of Libra is the outer side of Venus – learning how to relate to the world outside of our selves. Its success is based upon the Venus/Taurus inner relationship with our selves. Are you projecting insecurity or self-reliance out into the world? Venus/Libra must watch the “need to be needed” at the expense of its own needs. When we do not receive from another as we have given to them, the answer lies in less giving, not more.

Venus in Libra is playing catch up to the inner planets, so it can learn from the latest Mercury retro cycle in Scorpio/Libra and Sun in Scorpio. It can learn fairly fast, with effort, when to give and when to not give – that famous equality of giving and receiving in any and all relationships. Go for it. Every fall we take our relationships to another level of interactions.

The energy is there to actually be heard. We can even hear what others have been trying to tell us over the last few months. Make the time to talk things out, one more time. Make the effort to speak the truth as best you know it. Libran color-coating just sets up another possibility of mis-understanding so find some Sag bluntness. It will be best in the long run.

November 9 - The New Moon of Scorpio is November 9 at 17/18 degrees Scorpio. Sun is mid-way through Scorpio so we know the emotional themes that need to be re-birthed. Moon in Scorpio sometimes gets a bad rap for being intense and heavy, extreme. Yet it can emote very deeply and actually creates the strongest levels of soul bonding.

Your abilities to emotionally renew will be based upon your degree of Taurean self-reliance. Reach for it, and then commit to your next step of emotional growth. Where is your weakest link emotionally? This is where separating forces will attempt to undermine your life. Initiate the courage and willpower to change, adding emotional strength to it.

Set your intents to re-birth in various areas of your life, asking returning forces to energize and co-create with you. Scorpio has traditionally been associated with the symbol of the phoenix rising from the ashes, and New Moon in Scorpio is the timing. November 11 - Mercury reenters Scorpio on November 11 for the next three weeks, until December 1. The emotional detective is razor-sharp. Nothing escapes our radar when we focus on it. Find your weakest link and energize it into your strength.

Mercury is on its last passage over its retrograde degrees, so there is wisdom to our left-brain ponderings. It can mean one more communication, as directly as possible and then knowing what steps to take next. It is realizing that life and its distortions are complex, and yet universal timeless truths are simple and observable in nature. Let Mercury in Scorpio help you find your bottom line.

The classic symbol of revenge relates to Scorpio. When we understand it in terms of reincarnation, it can take supreme effort to get off the wheel of karma, refusing to energize another cycle of revenge. Where can you understand this in your life and stop the games? Does it matter who started it? Why energize it anymore? This realization is especially helpful in relationship intimacy. Emotional charges with people need to be healed to a point of neutralization to release the karmic ties. Listen to your Scorpionic excuses and make an intense change for the positive.

November 11 - The Sun makes a waning square to Neptune on November 11 at 19/20 degrees Scorpio-Aquarius. There may be a need for emotional releases in order to find peace. This is the last quarter – crisis in consciousness – aspect. Somehow the old ways of looking at things no longer work. Old emotional beliefs have run their course and are no longer serving you so let go.

Victimization is a theme to ponder with Neptune’s natural rulership of Pisces. We can spend lifetimes taking on beliefs of un-worthiness and then creating the experiences to match. We can become emotionally attached to our stories of betrayal and pain. It is what we know! And every time we tell the story again we re-imprint it. Can you lose your “bad” stories, especially the emotional attachments to them? It is where you can start to re-create your life in new ways.

Learn how to tell new stories about the directions you are heading. Can you bring them into consciousness now? Put your feet on the ground and start from there. “I may not be a millionaire yet; however, I have always been able to make it through any financial scares. The universe opens up for me in a variety of ways. I am getting better and better at energizing a good relationship to all my resources.”

November 15 - Mars turns stationary retrograde on November 15 at 12/13 degrees Cancer. This begins Mars’ every-other-year retrograde cycle to review our conscious desire nature. Mars is retrograde until January 30, 2008, when it turns direct again at 24 degrees Gemini, with the highlight of this retro cycle on December 24 when Mars opposes the Sun at 2/3 degrees Cancer-Capricorn. Its entire shadow period lasts from September 16 to April 4, 2008 (seven months) – the time it takes Mars to pass over 24 degrees Gemini to 12/13 degrees Cancer three times.

All planetary cycles can be related to the Sun, the life force in our solar system that gives us the abilities to creatively self-actualize any planetary archetypes. Mars has a two-year cycle with the Sun. Its last conjunction to the Sun was October 22/23, 2006, at 29/30 degrees Libra. Mars relates to our instinctive desires to evolve and take action in life, and this last conjunction initiated a two-year cycle to expand and address relationship issues.

Evolutionary Astrology observes Pluto as the unconscious desire nature of the soul (both returning and separating desires), with those desires becoming conscious via Mars. So Mars can be the leading edge of our separating desires or our returning desires. How many times have you really, really wanted that one possession, only to later discard it for the next desire? We can apply the same process to all desires – lovers, children, success, money, etc. The process to naturally exhaust the separating desires is a long, long process.

Just observe your own life. You may profess the desire to know God/Goddess and have deep meaning in your life. Yet you still desire a lover, or children, or wealth. The sexual desire is one of the last desires to be exhausted. It is not naturally turned off by entering a convent or monastery; just observe the recent history of Catholicism.

When Mars turns retrograde for two-plus months once every two years, it is a time to review the desires we are in the midst of creating. Is this really what I want in my life? Do I really relate to what I have created? Everything has its season and cycle from birth to growth to bloom to decay to death and starting all over again. Mars retro is a natural time period to manifest and exhaust a separating desire.

The big issue is whether we replace it with another separating desire, or cultivate a returning desire. To put it another way, how do I utilize my material world on my path back home to the Non-material? The tools that separate us from Universal Source can be utilized to help return us to Universal Source, naturally exhausting them along the way. The Scorpio danger is becoming stuck in thinking that the tool is a defacto god/goddess and ultimate power. What is meant by the word “tool?” A lover, child, home, career, money or possession, substitute whatever works for you.

This is a strong Mars retro cycle making three oppositions each to Jupiter and Pluto in addition to three waning sextiles to Saturn. The oppositions to Pluto have us really questioning our desire nature, and the oppositions to Jupiter necessitate reviewing the purpose of our desires. The Saturn sextiles add to the need for releasing old, exhausted separating desires.

As this Mars retrograde cycle takes place in Cancer-Gemini it brings up all kinds of themes around family, siblings and the home environment. It relates to emotional self-reliance lessons, which drives our desire nature in the first place. When security is outwardly based, then we need to control our outer world and so desires revolve around control mechanisms to do so. It is hard to trust for power is perceived to be outside of our selves.

Mars will bring us several opportunities to become more self-responsible in meeting our emotional needs as it reverses through Cancer. The lessons revolve around inner security which lets us then ebb and flow with the always changing outer world. These lessons are also learned, or not, as children in our families of origin. It is time to take another look at our familial patterns and how they still affect us in adulthood. The relationship desires initiated at the last Sun-Mars conjunction (October 2006) will now be reviewed through our family patterns. Intimacy success is directly related to familial success.

As Mars works it way back into Gemini, we can bring a mental edge and some flexibility to those old, old emotional patterns still motivating our actions. The Sun will be in Sagittarius and Capricorn, bringing objectivity through higher wisdom and maturation themes. Mars retrograde can bring on lots of frustrations and anger. We need to realize the purpose for those emotions, what is it teaching us?

It is time to review what motivates us in life and review our desires from those deeper understandings. It is time to realize evolution takes place through our emotional body, and we are ready for another leap of growth emotionally. Our actions need to honor our selves (self-love) and make us feel good. As souls learn to reconnect to natural spiritual laws and principles, life flows through discovering what makes us feel good. We naturally exhaust our material world, replacing with more and more non-material desires.

November 16 - Mercury makes the third and final waxing sextile to Saturn on November 16 at 7/8 degrees Scorpio-Virgo. The first two aspects were September 30 and October 19 in Scorpio-Virgo as well. Here is the third chance to release old realities no longer serving us. Natural law ebbs and flows like the cycles of the seasons. Saturn isn’t always good at letting go so Mercury, the messenger, gets to help out.

There are always people in our lives with the answers on what they think is best for us. We have been hearing from them over the last few months. What have been the repeating themes? Are you listening? Perhaps, after taking everything in, you are still motivated by your own inner voice. Mars, newly retrograde, will give strong emotional clues.

We all probably speak an entire book in a day’s worth of time. Mercury-Saturn is about getting to the point, no fluff. We know what we need to communicate, and Scorpio and Virgo are also good at the bottom line with words. Now is a good time for whatever conversations are on the priority list. It is solution time.

November 19 - Venus makes the third and final waxing square to Mars retro on November 19 at 12/13 degrees Libra-Cancer. The first one was April 22/23 at 13 degrees Gemini-Pisces and the second waxing square was August 7 at 0/1 degrees Virgo-Gemini. With both Venus and Mars experiencing retrograde cycles this year, they have entertained a variety of aspects to each other. The only three-peat has been this waxing square which emphasizes the need to initiate and manifest new relating patterns.

This is the crisis in action, first quarter square. What new ideas do we need to put into action? The past may be tugging strongly, how do we put it behind us? Venus relates to our essential needs and Mars is how we take action to meet those needs. Together they help us manifest our desires and create our relationships. Both are strong themes this fall.

The Venus retrograde cycle from this summer has helped us figure out what was really important in our lives. Now, Mars newly retrograde is the review process on the action game. Emotions are really strong clues again. Venus in Libra senses the relationship ideals, yet Mars retro will let us know where we are failing on emotional levels. Honor your feelings to help you clean up your relating patterns.

November 19 - Mercury makes the third and final waxing trine to Mars retrograde on November 19 at 12/13 degrees Scorpio-Cancer. The first two aspects were September 26 (Libra-Gemini) and October 17 (Scorpio-Cancer). Mars turns retrograde in close orb to a trine with Uranus, which goes direct November 24, so both planets are pretty much standing still right now.

Sun in Scorpio closes out the month with strong emotional themes – honor that emotional body, again and again. Watch out for escapism tendencies. We have been so conditioned to ignore our feelings and emotional messages, that some souls could get slammed into their emotional bodies.

Mercury acts like the messenger between Mars and Uranus over the next few days. As emotions bubble up, or burst out, talk it through. Mars may not know what actions to take right now. Maybe talking things out is enough, even the best thing to do. This is the third waxing trine between Mercury and Mars so the communication theme is upon us again, perhaps with some results this time. It might be best for any actions to allow for flexibility.

November 21 – Finally, Mercury makes a waning trine to Uranus retrograde on November 21 at 14/15 degrees Scorpio-Pisces. The insights could be especially strong right now. Mercury is the conscious mind while Uranus is the individuated, unconscious mind. Whenever these two planets link up, the mental sparks fly.

We may not like what is coming up, yet evolving our souls will happen with either co-operation or resistance and cataclysm. Uranian messages tend to be far-removed from current realities; hence, the tendency to ignore or suppress the messages until we have no other choice but to pay attention.

Our unconscious mind tends to release information up into consciousness in disjointed fashion – bits and pieces like a puzzle we get to figure out. The important theme is repetitious messages so take note of whatever keeps getting your attention. It is the depth of your own soul attempting to communicate to you. The issues could revolve around the past (lives), currently suppressed situations/thoughts/emotions, and/or blueprints of the future ready and wanting to manifest. Uranus – the individuated unconsciousness – contains all three areas. It is up to us to make sense of things and how our soul is currently intending to liberate itself.

Uranus is almost direct and full of such messages coming to the surface so it will keep Mercury quite busy – reflecting and communicating, back and forth. Another layer of illusions are revealed so Mars could be confused and not know which way to act. Breathe. Exercise. The emotional uprisings and frustrations are necessary to get you in touch with your own soul’s deepest desires.

Can you make the Scorpio effort to metamorphose however necessary? When you feel resistance and yet you realize the necessary steps in front of you, know that procrastination will only make a bigger issue out of it. Our emotional bodies really are the leading edge for each of us, yet we tend to ignore our feelings and emotions. The grand trine between Mercury, Mars and Uranus allows us to understand why things are happening, and make great leaps forward if we make the effort.

Go for it. Love your self as best as you can and honor your needs. You really can take care of all of your essential needs, minimizing projections so that you receive the same from others in return. Your intuition can be razor sharp to any game-playing. Refuse to be a part of it. Love as you would like to be loved, and hold healthy boundaries when it is not returned in kind.

The strong emotional ending to this solar month can catapult us forward to the degree we are cooperating with our soul’s intentions this lifetime. Let Uranus reveal the next step, and Mars will figure out the way to make it happen. May you be most successful.
